Removing baffle on 2007 CRF230f

Recommended Posts

Hi So I have been looking into uncorking my 230 and I have seen people removing the baffle. But They said that it makes the bike louder and In Idaho for trail riding which is what I do The bike cant be louder than 96 DB. So Does anyone know how loud the bike is without the baffle cause I really don't want to get pulled over and get a ticket for it.

Thanks

Simply remove it and do an “A” - “B” test and then tell us what you think about it. (After/Before)

I measured mine at 86 dB with and without (open) the "Bikers Choice" baffle. I do not have a stock baffle for comparison.

Scroll up to "Sound level measurements" here

Changes in the exhaust do change air flow thru the engine and if the cam has a lot of overlap reversion can affect jetting. I had this problem with my 218, the cam has 40 degrees of overlap, twice what a stock 230 has.  The X engine also has only 20 degrees of overlap and removing its baffle improved bottom end.

So sometimes you get unexpected results.
