2017 vs 2018 Kx250f

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am looking into a new kx, just curious, I have looked into the 2017s and all the reviews say that the linear power is quite boring. I am coming off of a 2010 Kx250f carbureted so I like the snappy hit of the carb however I need a new bike to keep up with racing. The reviews on the 2018s all talk about all the updates on the 18 but there isn’t any mention on the power compared to the 17. My question is, is it really worth paying more for an 18 or getting a cheaper 17. Which one do you guys own and what do you think about them? I was thinking of getting a 17 and putting a vortex ignition on it. Do you reckon this is a better idea than getting a 2018?

Thanks.

You're 2010 would have to have a pretty stout mod list to out pace a 17' or 18'. You'll be happy with either.

For racing linier and boring is faster then a hard hit and exciting. I've never ridden either bike but I know predictable power is way faster.

A bit late but anyways:
I own a KX250F 2017 and know people who have 2018's. I've ridden both bikes both modified and stock and I enjoy the 2017 A LOT more than the 2018.
I have a Vortex ECU, powerflow airfilter kit and full titanium FMF exhaust on my bike and have a friend who has the exact same modifications on his 2018. Tried his bike the other day and there was a huge difference. My bike would pull a lot more from the bottom to mid range while his bike would pull more on top, both bikes are incredibly solid bikes and ride smooth but the 2017 IMO (with the mods ofc) has more power than the 2018
