1999 Gas Gas EC300 parts?

Recommended Posts

Hey all... i recently bought a 1999 Gas Gas Ec300 and I’m pumped about it, but am having some difficulty finding parts. I can find them no problem for the newer models, but not for this year. Can OEM parts not be ordered? It seems as if you can’t buy a new crank for this bike and you have to send it to be rebuilt. Also looking for a full set of plastics. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, ride on ??

Call matto cycle

www.gasgasparts.com. you can get just about anything for it. Nothing wrong with a rebuilt crank. Matto can even do that work for you. Uses a CR250 rod.

As far as plastics the only thing you would get is radiator shrouds. Everything else is available.

Here is the thread on my 1999.

Hadfield thanks for the info! I bought the bike with a locked up motor for $500 with a street legal title. I want to do a nice once over and engine rebuild before reassembly. Do you know if parts interchange from year to year??

GG is great about designing new parts to retrofit older bikes. About the only thing you will not be able to get will be the plastic in original GG colors.  You can often find them used or update to the new plastic from the later bikes.  Another option is to use KX plastic that you can get in white and black but it is forbidden to put green plastic on a GG.

I fully agree that you should get the crank rebuilt. Going price is about $75 for the CR250 rod kit and $150 for labor.

Is there a website for all of these parts? I can find nothing. Gasgasparts.com as hadfield mentioned doesn’t seem to be it. Maybe it’s called something else? Anything else I can find only offers 2001 and newer parts, which is why I wonder fitment options between years. I apologize for my ignorance, but this is pretty frustrating! Ordering plastics, seat cover, etc should be a simple task, no??

Before 2000 GG was pretty small internationally and even smaller in the US.   There were some rolling changes that happened through out the earlier years that make a few items a little more difficult to track down.  While the older GG bikes do not show up on many web parts searches, most of the hard parts are the same as a 2001 except for the plastic like I said earlier.  I would call a local GG dealer.  If you do not have one, I recommend Halls Cycles in Springfield IL.  They have been a GG dealer since the beginning and they know the new and older bikes well.  https://www.halls-cycles.com/

This KX plastic kit in black will work except for the tank shrouds.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/POLISPORT-Plastic-kit-KAWASAKI-KX125-KX250-1994-1995-1996-1997-1998-shrouds-BLK/371738055883?hash=item568d5094cb:g:srMAAOSw8w1X2yHO:rk:9:pf:0

Seat cover- Halls should be able to help you with the cover too or you can get one from GUTZ Racing  http://www.gutsracing.com/

I just put a newer I believe 2006 cover on a 1998 seat and it fit fine.

GG made a tank and seat change between 1999 and 2000 that also affected the tank shrouds.  You can upgrade to the newer parts easily as GG made kits to retrofit the old bikes to accept new bike plastic.

So, after doing some research, the plastics are still troublesome to find. I am now aware that the older KX plastics will work, except the tank shrouds. I can find 2000-2006 plastics, but the shrouds will not mount to my tank. Can I fit a tank from same year onto my frame from ‘99?? I found a tank for that same year span... any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What’s different on your 99 to 2000 that doesn’t fit on your tank? I thought it looked different but still fit. I have a 2001 300 that fit the newer later year 2002 and on different tank shrouds.. ask Hadfield. He has a 99 which should be closer to what you have.

Have you gone to gasgasrider and looked up threads ? Just checking in case you didn’t..

I actually thought gasgas was interchangeable till 2010. 2011 had a big change in plastic design and then even bigger in 2012. There is a kit that changes earlier before 2011 design gasgas to look like a 2011 gasgas. It came with all plastics and a different subframe. I think you had to buy a newer seat though.. just for you to be aware as you could use newer plastics there if you run into that kit.

Ah.. didn’t know of the change between 99 and 2000. Thanks. Didn’t see this kit for this plastics upgrade before though yet. Learn something every day :ride:

So what there’s no adapting a 2000 to a 1999 plastics shrouds??

Yes you'll need the tank. Also 99% sure you need the seat as well. I can actually verify as I have a '99 and a '00. I will check both seats. I can do it this weekend as I am out of town

Everything is available except the shrouds.

Hadfield, I’d appreciate that greatly. I found a 2000+ tank off of a ec200 used for the shrouds to work, but want to make sure there were no frame differences and the tank will fit on my bike. It’s possible the seat is shaped differently also. Thanks for all the help!

Sometime about 1999 the tank and seat were changed so the tank actually fits into the front of the seat.  I have never tried to see if you can fit the later seat on the earlier tank. But you can not put the older seat on the newer tank because it does not have the recess for the tank.

These two tanks are the post 1999 type.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-GasGas-EC-200-Gas-Tank-Fuel-Petrol-Petcock-OEM-Stock-Gas-Gas-XC-250-300/323691897060?hash=item4b5d8a60e4:g:3bcAAOSw1WJZJKUK

I recently came across some 1998 tank shrouds and compared them to some from 2004 and it looks like the mounts line up so they should work.  I am sorry for the confusion in my first post.
