Cylinder fitment

So my 1998 KX250 cylinder is honestly done for, maxed out the bore and blew it, anyways I’m wondering if a 2003 KX250 cylinder would bolt up and function well, I’m going to get a really good deal on it and it’s been replated and comes with top end kit. Anyways has anyone done this swap I need some advice

The 98 uses a single stage power valve.  The 03 is a two stage, the center valve opens first and the drums fully open at higher RPM.

It will bolt on and run but I think you will have to do some work under the engine side cover to get the power valve operating correctly.  I don't think you can just swap the governor because the primary ratio changed in 2002 so the primary gear is a different size.  You will likely need to purchase a 2003 governor and mix and match parts with your 98 governor until you get it working right.
