Increasing life of a 2003 yz250f

This is my first time posting the question is this the new style for strokes seem very temperamental and high maintenance. If you were to decrease the compression ratio would that extend the life of the motor and transmission even though it would be decreasing performance. The obvious answer is yes because less stress. But has anyone done it? 12 to 1 compression ratio or higher requiring 90% octane is quite High compared to my 1991 dr350 that has an 8.5 to 1 compression ratio and can go for thousands of miles without needing to be rebuilt.

There is a lot more to it than simply dropping the CR. The YZ is a race engine from top to bottom, changing just a part of it still leaves all the rest as a race machine. If you want a long term machine that requires little servicing, get a trail bike. You want to race, get a race bike.
