Wrapping Lighting Coil For XR100

Recommended Posts

Hi, i was wondering if I could get lights running off of a stock 1996 xr100 stator or would i need to wrap my own? i tested the leads on the stock and I get 240v on one wire and around 1 on the second. I hooked the 240v one up to a rectifier and i got 0 volts dc. Any Ideas?

The 100 does not have a lighting coil.  Only coil wrapped is for the ignition.

There are spare poles on the stator that can be wrapped to create a lighting coil.

Once you learn about lighting coils, turns, poles and such you can then tackle the question of AC vs DC for your lighting. Then you get to choose a voltage regulator to match.

After all of that you can have a headlight on your 100.

Read this thread on ADV and you will learn what you need to know about wrapping your own lighting coil.  It isn't hard to do, but it needs to be done correctly.
