california johnson valley/barstow shooting and riding?

best camping trips so far have been both riding and target shooting, anyone know of good spots for a camper rider who picks up before he leaves? had fun in blm outside of barstow and even up in kennedy meadows doing this where it is legal. I have heard johnson valley ohv is shotgun only but what about outside the ohv area. any pointers appreciated!

There's good shooting on the Pacific Crest trail

Jawbone Canyon is good for both. Theres a big ass pipe in the front you can play jingle bells on if you have multiple calibers/shooters.

Watch out for riders that will go directly behind your backstop while you are shooting though. Give one or two a pass but anything beyond that just keep on firing.  Darwin candidates...

love the enthusiasm in this thread. heard a lot about jawbones from other riders i meet out on the trail maybe it’s time to try it.
