How to take KX250F Engine Sprocket nut (20-tooth nut!)

Recommended Posts

I wanted to ride out this morning with my friend on this 2006 KX250F I bought a couple days ago but it needs a new sprocket. The nut holding the sprocket on has 20 teeth! I have been looking for hours for information on this and I even read the owners manual. I can’t believe there isn’t any information on this.. I looked up “all different types of wrenches” “all types of nuts” but I can’t find anything on how to take off this dumb nut!

The front sprocket is held on by a snap ring. There is no nut. The 20 teeth nut you refer to is the end of the splined output shaft from the transmission. Which the sprocket is slipped onto and held onto by the snap ring.

Take the snap ring off. Then slide the sprocket off. Slide the new sprocket on. Put the snap ring on. Done.
