2018 RMZ450 low oil level ?

Recommended Posts

My 2018 RMZ450 has max 6 hours on it. I was doing an oil change yesterday and noticed it had lost alot of oil since my last oilchange 3 hours ago.

About 0,35 liter was missing, (max 1,1 liter with oilfilterchange).

Is it common for the RMZ450 to burn oil ?

I´ve been riding in mostly cold winter-weather lately, but that hasn´t been a problem on any other bike or brand I had before.

Any ideas ?

How many places did you drain it from?

2 places...from bottom plug and left side

That should get the bulk of it out then, you could try the oil strainer/drain plug under the gear shifter. 12mm I think, best to check that for metal fragments anyways.

My '09 Z seems to like keeping the old oil in the motor.  Even with both drain plugs, filter, and the strainer removed, it'll trap the oil somewhere.

I found to get the max amount out, I had to kick the bike over like 10 times with the kill switch depressed.  Oil would flow out of the stator drain on every kick.  I think it has something to do with the flapper valve sandwiched between the case halves.

But, that's why the manual specs three different oil levels;

  1. Oil Change only
  2. Oil Change with filter
  3. Overhaul
