Shortening intake boot

Recommended Posts

I put a SmartCarb on, and I love it.  But, it's a little longer than the stock carb and compresses the intake boot.  I noticed the other day that the boot is now cracking where stress is put on it.  Are others noticing this?

I'm guessing I can just trim part of the boot off to relieve the stress, but does anyone make a shortened boot?

I bought a new boot with the intention of trimming it down. However, the part that attaches to the carb gets narrower about 1cm in. I don't think it will fit around the carb if I trim it. I've seen others say they trimmed theirs though.

Am I gonna have a problem?

I cut 20mm off the end of the boot. Once you do this, the internal diameter of the boot will be 57mm. It needs to be 63mm to fit over the carb.

So, I 3d printed a 63mm cylinder with a tapered end, heated the end of the boot with a heat gun, and the stuck the plug in it and let it cool down. Perfect fit now.

Also, I feel like I missed a huge opportunity to make that plug look like some sort of an adult toy.
