offroad Dakar moving to Saudi Arabia and North Africa ?

Recommended Posts

Heard about this awhile ago but it sounds like Dakar is moving to Saudi Arabia and North Africa in 2020 for the next 5 to 10 years.

I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing some of the incredibly beautiful places and races in South America but should be interesting seeing Dakar going back to it's roots but hope this doesn't effect the NA and SA rider entries

North Africa would be strange. Years ago it was decided to stop racing there because of terrorism, and now that has only increased.

Or politics, when you get blown up.

Dakar does suggest riding in Africa. Did they still start in Paris, which has it's own set of political riots?

I was looking at Venezuela vs Saudi Arabia.  32 vs 34 million people in Saudi Arabia. I guess the Saudis would like to showcase their country. Dubai gets all of the press.
