Gas tank cap leakage

Recommended Posts

My understanding is that the stock 350 excf fuel tank cap has a one way valve in it that allows venting but does not allow fuel leakage in the event the bike becomes inverted. While I had the tank off today I decided to test this and in fact fuel poured out of the overflow tube when I turned the tank over. Currently the overflow is connected to the carbon canister on the bike so in the real world any spilled gas would end up there. However I was thinking of disconnecting the carbon canister since I read somewhere that it could occasionally cause problems.

Since the bike and rider in question seem to find themselves in all kinds of unusual orientations all to frequently, I am wondering if I should be looking into doing something about the potential leakage? Or is this entirely normal?
