I noticed some oil leaking from this hole and was wondering if it a major issue and how to fix if needed

Looks like the hole that goes to the spark plug. You probably have a leaking valve cover gasket. Have you pulled the gas tank off to look?

 Yup, correct on both!!

One thing to look for is the tube itself leaking down at the bottom. They can get wiggled loose and leak. If it is loose, just clean it up really well on both sides(head and the tube) and push it back in with some silicone. SOME...not the whole damn tube...

Drain hole for the spark plug in case water etc gets passed the boot.

Maybe the spark plug is loose so pull the tank and check first for blow back?

So replacing the valve cover gasket should stop the leak ?

Maybe... You need to find the source and fix whatever the source of the leak is. Odds are it is the valve cover gasket, actually it would be the "round spark plug hole packing" which is what it's called in my service manual or "seal, ring" which is what it's called in the parts list.

12226-MEB-670   SEAL, RING   $2.60

But as noted it could be a loose spark plug or the tube.

Safe as in will it kill you? Yes safe. Safe as in could it blow up the bike? Yes safe. But if oil can get out then it's possible (not very probable though) dirt could get into the engine and harm something.

But really it's a 15 minute job to pull the tank and valve cover and look to see if the seal is there. You could probably even tell just by pulling the tank, pull the spark plug cap off and look in the tube with a flashlight.
