YZ125 1997 Project

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have bought anothe project.

1997 YZ 125

Starts first kick even tho it doesn't look like it would.

Problem I'm unsure of

Kick start doesn't spring back

Clutch doesn't disengage (had it on the stand and it went through the gears but doesn't disengage) what I did notice was on the clutch casing there looks to be a spring lose, I will take some pics tomorrow.

Problem I can sort

Rear shock is like a pogo stick (Local company doing this)

Fronts need rebuilt (mate doing this)

Front master cylinder rebuild

Water pump seal change

I love a project and a 2 stroke, just the top 2 problems I am unsure of.

I'm taking the engine out tomorrow and going to paint the frame up and get her back to her former glory then run it at the local track.

Any help would be great

Kick start is probably broken inside and need a new shaft (common problem)

Notched basket, or cable stretch beyond limit. Check cable to insure it has proper slack, open clutch cover and see if basket is notched.

Thanks dude.

I've fully stripped the bike now - Engine is still in it tho.

Out of curiosity a friend has a old YZ 250 rear shock has only done 4 hrs. its a 2003, will it fit my bike (he lives 1hr away so thought I'd ask) I know spring rates will be different but just curious.
