Where would I measure the voltage?

Hey all, Along time ago I rewound my own stator and it works in that my higher wattage bulb appears brighter.

I want to test it it to see what the actual output is, where would I put the test probes? Should I just test the headlight socket or test it in line or directly out of the stator? (not sure how I could do the later while its running?)

I was hesitant to take the bulb out and run it b/c I have stock regulator/rectifyer thingy and didn't know if it had less load it'd put to much on the R/R thingy? I'm just not sure where to start?

I have the PDF manual but its not NA spec and has the wiring diagram for the version with all the street stuff. So didn't know how different my version is?

Any suggestions?

Hmm, did you add a few windings to an existing stator, or completely rewind the whole beast? If you just added a few turns, then add 10% to the existing figures and go out riding. :thumbsup:

A stator/generator/alternator outputs "AC" or alternating current. This is then is rectified (directionalized) by a rather ineffecient rectifier module which yields pulsating "DC" or direct current. This pulsating DC then gets fed to the battery and lights and whatnot. Measuring the output from the rectifier may yield incorrect values since it is not pure DC but pulsating. You could try using a DC Voltmeter connected in parallel or Ammeter in series after the rectifier, but readings may be wrong, even if the meter is a "True RMS" type. The best method of test would be an AC Ammeter directly off the stator, but who has one of those? Short of that, if the light is brighter, it's getting more juice. To accurately quantify that juice, requires some reading, writing, and 'rithmatic.
