Kouba links and spring rates?

Recommended Posts

A long time ago I put Kouba links on a DR350 and from what I remember it reduced the spring rate (the links resulted in more leverage on the spring).  I can't remember if I added a new spring or just more preload.  I assume this is the case with the 690/701 too?  I also think the links resulted in a more linear rate (less progressive) which actually worked out well with the DR. Not sure how these bikes are sprung in the first place but I'm 145#.

I add a Kouba Link to my 2019 690 R and found it noticeably softened the rear.  Not a huge change but nice.  I'm 6'1" 201 lbs (Expert) and the link really helps me reach the ground.  I'm fine with a tall light (230lbs) bike in the dirt but at +300 lbs the 690 can get to be a bit tall (stock) if the terrain turns technical like the Devils Racetrack in the San Rafael Swell (UT).
