2000 WR400F won't start!!

Recommended Posts

So, I purchased a couple old WR400s and the 2000 wasn't running. I tore it down, split the case and built it back up. I have everything back together and I can't get it to start. I've triple checked timing and I have spark... I bought one of the cheap carbs from OEMSTD and installed it and still no start. I used some starting fluid and got one pop out of her.. I wish it had electric start... so, since timing and spark are right, where do I start with the carb? Yes, the bowl is full of fuel and it will flood.

Quite often, a hard/impossible to start performance oriented 4-stroke motorcycle engine is due to compression loss past mis-adjusted or worn valves.

Try push/bump starting it as that spins the engine over faster than operating the kick lever,

spinning it over faster can sometimes overcome the compression loss.

Once running, refurbishing the original OEM carburetor would without a doubt function better than a new cheap replacement.
