sucked in bit of paper towel

Recommended Posts

hey there guys looking for help, bought a 05 exc 450 with 350hrs (atleast), ran prety good, owner however didn't really show her much love.   So took her on two good test rides, then brought her in shop for fresh oil, valve check, carb clean, and  general tlc.

1.  Changed oil, checked valves, flushed fluids etc.

2.  Fire bike up starts good, revs up, maybe even better than before, awesome.

3. Ready to go riding, warm bike (stoked).  Dies soon as touch the gas. repeat same results.

4.   Start checking things out. Wtf theres a wad of paper towel jammed in carb, looks like small piece may have went through.

5.  Totaly lost feeling stupid.  Start jamming inspection camera and farmer rigging vacuum attachments in intake and spark plug hole.

6.  Gods hates a coward, fire up bike starts with bit of help, wont hold idle, runs snoty heavy back firing.  fortuntlley no harsh metallic knocking or pinning.

7. Rebuild carb all new jets, and gaskets, re check valves, spray carb clean looking for leaks des connect auto demopresion, try tuning with air fuel mix screw.  same results

8. repeat step 7 with mechanically budy, still no idle, snoty and back firing.

9.  join forum pray for help.

Could tiny piece of towel bend valve, or nock the timing chain off a tooth.  It ran decent before I started working wtf did I mess up.?

thanks

hey thanks for reply, I'll try another plug, and have good go over all my connections.  I have been testing commpresion through out all my thinkering have had 115 to 125 psi.   I was hopin, seeing how it's just paper towel, it would have inserated on start up.  Not so sure now.

Paper towel is harmless.  If it did get stuck between a valve and the seat it would unstick itself quickly.  It likely blew right through.
