Does size matter?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, what size tires do you run on your cr250s? What brand and air pressure do you prefer?

K69, you'll get a hundred answers but not one may apply to your specific usage.

-brand/model of tire is matched to your terrain (hard/soft) and budget minded (best traction versus longer wearing)

-air pressure is tire construction (carcass flex), terrain specific (hard/soft terrain) and, the risk of pinch flats versus best terrain compliance.

Can't go wrong by using the size that originally came from the manufacturer,

as they initially designed the chassis to handle it's best with that tire size in mind.

Going to a wider rear tire may help forward traction but doesn't want to lean over as easily when cornering.

Going to a 'fatty' front tire helps in square edged hit absorption and flotation in sand but also makes for a slower steering bike.

Around 12-14psi is the usual starting point for many tires with the exception perhaps of Michelin Starcross 5's (15psi).

Yes it does. Don't forget that there are different profiles as well as width too, there's a fair bit of difference between a 80 and 90 profile in the same width. And different brands vary in size in the same sizes too. You may need to experiment a bit to see what you like.

Otherwise what mlatour says, sticking with stock is always safe.
