Metal shavings

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm new to TT. Just bought a 2007 ttr230 was only running in choke so cleaned and adjusted the carb runs good now. Did my first oil change and found metal shavings in the oil filter engine seems to run fine is this normal for these bikes or should I look into opening the engine to check stuff out? 20190928_220232_HDR.jpeg

That's what a filter is for, it may have never been changed. Buy a new filter, even though it's cleanable, and ride the bike and see.

A few years ago I did the first oil change on a neighbors brand new TTR230, the engine only had 1 hour of previous run time.

The oil filter looked 10 times worst than that with a surprising amount of metallic debris of every shape and size,

looked like if Yamaha skipped cleaning anything during the machining process!

As motovita suggested, replace the filter and keep an eye on it at next oil change

If the same amount of debris is again present, then perhaps you should look deeper into finding the cause.
