baseballr Posted October 2, 2019 So this is my first time doing piston rings. I’ve worked on cars a lot but this is my first small engine overhaul. Doing it to a 95 xr100r to teach the girlfriend how to ride. I was wondering if anyone had any techniques to putting on cast iron piston rings. I have a piston rings spreader worked fine for the other rings but obliterated the cast iron. That mistake cost me $30 looking to avoid having that happen again. Any tips would be greatly appreciated thanks.
SteveThe Snakes My Rides (8) Posted October 2, 2019 I always put rings on the piston with my fingers. Just spread it enough to slide over the piston and no more. You can use your finger nails to push the rings in to slide the barrel on.
