New trail opportunity in N.E. Minnesota

Recommended Posts

Officials from Lake County wanted us to know about an upcoming meeting for a big chunk of single track they are hoping to open. Attend and show support if you can.

Lake County in partnership with http://www.wildcountryatv.com/ is proposing to build approximately 10 miles (phase 1) of motorcycle singletrack in Lake County with a trailhead north of the E. Alger Grade https://goo.gl/maps/snydmza1qwUzEt2X7. The proposed area has a lot of rock and enough topography to make the trail fun and challenging.

The next step in the process is a permit hearing for the Conditional Use Permit. The hearing is January 27th at 6:30pm at the Silver Bay Service Center, 99 Edison Boulevard, Silver Bay, MN 55614. It would help to have as much support at the meeting as possible. If you can't make the meeting please send a letter of support to:

Environmental Services

Planning and Zoning

Courthouse, 601 3rd Ave.

Two Harbors, MN 55616

jill.paron@co.lake.mn.us

If the Conditional Use Permit gets approved, we should be able to start building the trail as soon as the snow melts this spring. Please send this to all interested parties. The more support that is shown for this trail at the permit hearing the higher the chance that the permit will be approved.

Please note these trails are still in the planning phase and won’t be official until the Conditional Use Permit gets approved.

Good to hear about the special use permit. I'm new here and did not hear about this until now, or I would have sent a letter myself. I just bought a CRF230F after being away from the sport for more than 10 years. I will hopefully be able to ride this trail in the future, I'm on the iron range.

Hey Ranger if you are interested in helping out here is the ATV club that they are aligning with the get the single track trails going. The guy that is spearheading this is from Duluth.  http://www.wildcountryatv.com/

Is this still going on, or did the covid19 kill it?

I live on the Iron Range too and had to google the area in question to see where it was and noticed the North Shore State trail crosses the Fox Farm Rd. Back when I was young I would start at the Normana/Fox Farm intersection and ride like hell to Two Harbors via Fox Farm/App/W Knife River Rd (before it was paved) on a XS650 Yamaha.

Im guessing nothing was well/officially marked, the trails not very burnt in yet and you had to go down some logging roads to get to them. So unless you specifically knew where to go and look, you probably were not going to find them. If you are on facebook, find the Minnesota Dirtbike Trail Riders group and join. From there, any opening info should be relayed to the masses
