Honda Z50 compatibility

Are all Honda 50's from the original Z50 to the CRF 50 basically the same except for refinements like ignition and carburetion? I have an '86 Z50 in need of a motor.

Any engine from a '68 Z50A through the 2019 CRF50F is a direct bolt-in into your '86 frame. As you stated, the ignition systems vary: '68 through '87 are 6V points-type ignition, and the '88 through '19 are 12V CDI-type ignition and required a different wiring harness and ignition coil. As far as the carburetor, Honda used the same basic Keihin carb from the '82 Z50R through the '19 CRF with a few variables, mostly with the '06 and newer carbs.
