Hitting jumps for a new MX rider?

Recommended Posts

I’m a new rider to dirtbiking at tracks, how do I hit jumps successfully with out being scared, losing control, or endowing?

Many YouTube videos on the subject,

basically it comes down to maintaining a steady pace up the ramp, meaning don't gun or, suddenly let off the throttle as you hit the face.

Have a closer look at the jump first, pic a line that's smooth with no ruts or steep lip/kicker.

Stay neutral on the bike, your butt off the seat.  Applying a bit of throttle smooths out the landing.

If during first attempts at lower speeds the bike pitches forward or backwards in the air, suspect your suspension settings are not optimized.

If the back end kicks up, don't be tempted to slow down the shock's rebound,

more often than not it's the compression that's too stiff and deflecting off the lip.
