2012 ttr 230 questions

Recommended Posts

Well after my son worked long and hard i helped him out and found a deal on a 2012 TTTR 230, for 2100 CAD.  Bike runs well, son loves it.

Ok, being a Google mechanic as the sign says in my little garage.  I helped take off all the plastic so he can paint the frame, I noticed the Oil level was very low after topping it up last week.  dont see any oil leaks and don't smoking when he rides.  Took off air filter panel and noticed a little oil in there...

What should i be looking for if there is a problem?

These engines are somewhat known to produce a lot of fillings/particles in the oil filter.

Perhaps considered 'normal' but still alarming to me.

I've seen a brand new 2016 with no more than 1 hour of use fill up the filter with a sorts of junk!  (metal and RTV bits)

Keep monitoring the oil level each ride until you get an idea of consumption.

Many engines burn oil without visible smoke.

It's normal for some oil to accumulate in the airbox as the crankcase breather vents itself in there,

also excess oil from the air filter element can drip off.
