SXF250 Owners - avoid killing your engines

Recommended Posts

This Info is aimed at 250 SX-F 2008 - 2010, but probably other bikes as well.

Many SX-F die because of worn camshafts bearings or cams due to lack of lubrication.

Solution: remove the cylinder head and the camshaft bridge and check those 4 brass oil jet nozzles (you will need to remove 2 valve levers  in order to access 2 of the jets - remove the axle by tapping on the bridge). 3 out of 4 were completely clogged at my bike. Use a single strand of a wire brush to clean those jets + carb cleaner/compressed air. A nice light spot needs to be visible against a flashlight.

Use little amount of screw glue and gentle screw back in (remember that bridge is made of aluminium and the thread is short).  Checked my friends bike (same model) - 3 clogged jets (!).
BTW, also check that rubber connector between engine and carb for hidden cracks.

Welly friend I'm 6 months into owning one that supposedly had a recent rebuild... It's very ticky- tensioner is good. Maybe this is the reason it has become a little ticky? A little starved of oil up top.

Good shout my friend!!
