Rocky mountain bib mousse sizing wrong?

Recommended Posts

I've put Michelin Star Cross 5s on two different bikes with Bib mousses.  The fronts are 80/100-21 and the rears are 110/100-18.   According to Rocky Mountain I went with an M15 front mousse and an M18 rear mousse.  The fronts went on easy.  The rears were REALLY difficult.  Like, there is no way in hell this is going to happen difficult.  But I got them in.

I had done one bike earlier in the year and just did the other bike.  I was cleaning up my mess when I noticed a Michelin pamphlet in the box had a sizing chart on it.  The Michelin pamphlet says that the M18 is the correct mousse for the Starcross 5 110/100-18!  Well, I thought maybe I screwed up but I just want back to Rocky Mountain's site and on the Michelin bib mousse page this is what it says...

Sizing equivalents:

100/100x18 = 120/90x18 Michelin M18
110-120/100x18 = 140/80x18 Michelin M14
100/90x19 = 120/80x19 Michelin M12
110/90x19 = 130/70x19 Michelin M199
140/80x18 = Michelin M02
80/100x21 = 90/90x21 Michelin M15
90/100x21 = Michelin M16

Ugh!  The Rocky Mountain sizing recommendations appear to be wrong.  Or maybe I'm just interpreting what they are trying to say there incorrectly.  Either way,  I don't recommend trying to stuff an M14 mousse into a MIchelin 110/100-18 tire.  And I really don't recommend being stupid enough to do it twice.

I had a hell of a time getting the nitro rear in the recon. The mousse was sticking over the tire when it was stuffed in. I did it without a tire stand though. Front went much easier though so im just assuming the rears get filled with more mousse typically
