Moving my boy up from 65 next yr don't know which way to go 85 or 150r which way should we go and why

They are both about the same except for one being 2t and one being 4t.

Since he's used to 2 stroke maybe I would hop him on an 85 if you don't mind rebuilding the top end once in a while.

But both equaly good bike in their respected nature.

What is the intended use?

Racing MX? Then a 150 should be good.

Trailing? KDX 200.

You don't tell us how big the lad is...

He is 10 and is right around 5' 100lbs likes to race  mx

Already at 5', you can pretty much skip an 85 or 150R and put him on a 'big wheeled' mini (pending there's a class for him to race that in)

a KX100 preferred over a CRF150RB for it's simplicity.   

150R not the easiest bike to work on, also quite expensive if it goes booom.
