What's your current opinion on what teams are running the closest bikes to off the shelf? A lot of them are closer to stock than they use to be because stock bikes are becoming so good. When you have good ergos and a good motor package you can keep it close to production They all use brakes, suspension ignitions, transmission and other factory bolt in’s like links and such. But I think KTM is probably closest, when Herlings came here to ride Tennessee a couple years ago, he hated the American based frame because it was stock.
ah665 My Rides (4) Posted November 17, 2020 I think the lines have been blurred by what is stock vs Factory. Jus listen to even Keefer's test about the YZ450F. He said (trying to quote from memory) "There is not 1 big thing/change that makes this bike a Factory bike. It's an accumulation of small details."

ah665 My Rides (4) Posted November 17, 2020 Also, FWIW and probably a bit contrary to some things posted in here. The other day Barcia was on DMXS podcast and was talking about the YZF and the team. He said a couple interesting things. 1 was that he would've rather had the personnel that was on the Factory Yamaha team (at the end after there was a reshuffle) than the people at Star. And the other was that they had switched to a more stockish detuned bike in SX (which included ECU) and it helped in relation to the handling but also hurt in other spots. And he said that ECU made it so that they couldn't get it right in SLC. And also confirmed that the motor characteristic upsets the chassis. And when asked about the best thing about the Gasgas he said the chassis feeling so slim and light compared to what he is used to.
