My new YZ125X!

Recommended Posts

So I sold my 2018 KTM300XCW because I realized I’m no Graham Jarvis, it was had to admit but I finally came to terms with it. So I bought the little Zinger to help get me back into the swing of things. First real mod will be springs, they are too stiff for my old carcass and weight. Next might be the tires. The pic is before my first ride!

Is that an aftermarket ignition cover on the 125X?

You will probably love your new yz125x. I have 49 hours on my new yz125x and have loved every minute of it.

Here's the great day I brought it home last summer.

I had to drop the float level down some and install a number 35 pilot jet to prevent plug fouling.

Nice! I need to check my plug. I put a break in hour on it yesterday and have some adjustments to make.

150, I want to try out Race Tech’s recommend weight.

I think you are going to be fine with the stock springs.  That bike is softly sprung as is.  Like MANIAC said, check you sag numbers.  You should be right in the ball park.

Nice bike!  My brother and I really like our 125’s for trail riding.  His a 2020 YZ125X, and mine a 125XC.

My brother weighs 160lbs soaking wet, and the stock springs/valving really work well for his style of trail riding in the Pacific Northwest.  Thus I suspect that the stock springs and valving will be close for you as well.

Re the carb that comes with the bike - Mikuni 38mm TMX.  The carb comes jetted way to rich for the bike when doing slower speed trail riding. So you may want to consider a 35 or 32.5 pilot.  Also the jet block gaskets on these carbs are know to fail pretty quickly (as I recall mine failed at under 10 hours), thus I would replace the jet block gasket with one from JD Jetting (about 20 bucks with shipping).  Otherwise you will be chasing your tail trying to jet the bike.

Anyways, Congrats on the new bike.  I think that Yamaha did a great job in building a fantastic small bore trail bike with the 125X.
