WR426. Exhaust too loud. No FMF Q4's FS anywhere

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a plated 2002 wr426 and love it but it is way too loud for the neighborhood. Attempting to ride to work at 6am without making too many enemies...

The current exhaust is a "Zip-TY Signature Series by Flow". It has a spark arrestor and Ive repacked it but its nowhere near what i'm after, cant pass by without people looking to see who the A**hole is.

Ive attempted to research the manufacturer in the hopes of finding a compatible insert but have come up short. https://ziptyracing.com/  Anyone know about this exhaust? and db killing solutions/ applications? Will the pro circuit quiet insert type product give me any negative db results? (see below link)

My ultimate want is to find a FMF Q4 or at the least a FMF PowerCore to throw a silencer tip into if that would get me lower. I have scoured the internet in search of a fmf q4 but cant find anything... used or new. Can anyone point me in the right direction or have one laying around?

My other option is to buy an old stock wr426/400 exhaust. Based upon looks, this welded shut chamber and pea shooter tip seems like it would be quiet but also incredibly restrictive. Ive found a few on ebay labeled "yanaha 5bf-10", one is listed as an oem yz pipe, the other is listed as an oem wr. Im figuring its a WR based on the other OEM yzs that ive seen.

Any and all help is appreciated. Trying to make the essential work commute a little more fun during this covid nightmare.

Not 100% sure it would work in reverse but I did the 03-05 yz450 plastic, subframe, seat tank swap on my yz400f over this last summer. I wanted a different exhaust for it but everything was sold out for the 03-05 stuff because of the rona.  So I put the old exhaust back on it.  bolted right up. Had to just kinda tweak it a little if I remember right.

Not sure if you could get a 03-05 exhaust to do the same thing in reverse. I did just put a lexx exhaust on haven't run it yet since it's like 10 degrees here. Not sure if you have seen lexx exhaust you can buy different diameter tips to "tune" it. You can go from 34mm to 46mm insert. https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/search/go?w=lexx exhaust

I do still have the stock exhaust if you decide you want to go that route make me an offer.

Thats a beautiful bike. Thank you kx450f06. I actually bookmarked your warp9 store recommendation on the classifieds yesterday; second time you've helped me out!

Ive done some light reading on the yz450 compatibility and will continue to do more. If the yz400/26 pipe fits on the yz450 subframe then i too would assume it would be backwards compatible.

I checked out the lexx. Definitely like the adaptability with the reasonably priced insert options. It is currently out of stock for the 03 with the expected renewal dates of jan-march/covid. Ill be revisiting this as my addiction grows

Im new to the yz/wr/400/26 's and dirtbikes in general and just figured that i missed the boat on aftermarket support for a 2002 bike in regards to wr426 fmf q4's, now im wondering if it also just a shortage due to covid?

Itching to ride so i pulled the trigger on the ebay stock yamaha (5bf-10) exhaust. Will try and pick up a cheap decibel meter and post up what I find. Might hit you up for your stock if the 5bf-10 is a dud

Thanks again

I'm running a WR400 overbore with stock exhaust. I leave in the peashooter to ride where stealth matters, and out otherwise. Probably should jet differently for the 2 scenarios, but it runs fine either way. With the peashooter in, it is a good bit quieter, with a bit of a chirpy sound, loses some power but not huge to me. Probably loses more at top end where when the backpressure builds. With the peashooter out, I'm definitely feel like I'm "that A**hole" in the neighborhood.
