Break in on Brand New 2004 250 F!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

sweet congrats -- i got mine about 2 weeks ago

i was told to ride it about 1/2 hour just be easy with it

no more than 3/4 throttle but vary the throttle as you normally would any way

that will let it heat and work things in

i changed the oil after it cooled down

got all the little metal filings out

rode it another hour or so later that day

a little more aggressivly and really started to play with it

they said heating it up and cooling it down is as important as anything else during break in

i changed the oil again and oil filter

after the 2nd ride

it was much cleaner this time

always make sure you warm it up before riding

and spend the extra and change the oil regularly

8 bucks on oil and a filter

will save you later on

and keep the air filter clean

i changed the oil after the 2nd and 3rd rides

i change it almost every weekend when the weekend of riding is over

the metal i guess depends

it must come from the gears inside as they wear in and mesh

with each other ??

the first time i changed it was just small filings

you could see in the oil as it drained

it was almost not noticable after the 1st change

Check out this link and read all the information on "Engine break in secrets". It works great! ?www.mototuneusa.com I have been breaking in engines this way on my road race bikes, dirt bikes and cars since 1996 and have had motors that made above average power and were very reliable. Now I'm sure some of this could be contributed to chance but I believe it's more than coincidence. I would change you oil before 50 miles and then start whatever regular intervals you think you'll follow.

My first oil change yeilded little to no filings. I thought that to be strange from what I have read here but have since decided it to be ok. I broke mine in a little harder than they recommended and all is well!!

Congrats on the bike!!! I love mine too!!!!

Well....I have been riding for only 2 years, spend most of my time watching my son race. I had more fun yesterday than I have ever had at the track!!!!!! This will probably be a popular statement on here, but I will never ride a 2 stroke again!!
