Valve noise or ACCT

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Can anyone describe the sound difference between valve noise or the ACCT gone bad? At low rpm (almost idle) in 1st, I'm hearing a loud tack tack tack tack and sounds like metal hitting metal. When I gas it just a little, it goes away and I don't hear it anymore. It only happens when the engine is just above lugging.

Bike is stock.

TIA for your help.

Paul

So it happens all of a sudden and doesn't make any noise? :  I've only got 1200 miles on the bike. Do the valves need adjusting already?

thanks

I would certainly check them. You'll find some guys on here check them

every few hundred miles. I check mine once a year, which relates to

about every 1200-1500 miles.

You need to eliminate the ACCT as the source of the noise and install

a MCCT anyway. Cheap insurance. :awww:

Even for noobs like myself, the MCCT is easy to install and adjust. I think most folks set it and forget it, but I re-adjust every so often...after seeing that now-famous picture, I'm paranoid.

I had a really hard get-off a month or so ago and the bike landed on

some rocks. The inner tube at the top of the waterpump punctured the

radiator hose from the inside out. What does this have to do with

noise? Nothing.

It was after that crash that I hear a noticable tick from the motor.

We rode the dirt road back to the truck after a little McGyver to the

radiator hose and top-off with river water...

I checked the MCCT and it was tight, but a re-adjustment of the MCCT

eliminated the tick and it's been fine since.
