Valves on CRF X

Recommended Posts

Just checked the Valves for the first time myself last night.

I have about 50 hours on my X and also had someone else check them, but decided I should learn.

The manual out and ready to go...

The exhaust was 0.229 both sides so seem ok

The inlet was 0.127 left and 0.178 right. So looking at the manual the righthand side inlet is out of spec, to big.

I have searched on here and read loads of reports about the righthand inlet valve becoming zero but not bigger.

Should I be looking at sims or leave it alone.

I could do with some help now as the manual doesnt really help much

Thanks

That's a good question.....what's the worst that will happen if a valve(s) are out of spec a little?

While riding the bike is there a way to tell if the valves are out? Noises, pings, significant loss of power....

While riding the bike is there a way to tell if the valves are out? Noises,

If they are loose they tend to bang open rather than being eased open which tends to make then clatter a bit more. A little loose is better than a little tight. As they get tighter the bike will become increasingly more difficult to start.
