Need fix for exhaust leak at header

Recommended Posts

I just did a top end re-build on my 2002 YZ250F. When I had it apart, I cleaned it, took out the old seal from where the head pipe goes into the head, and replaced it with a new one when I put everything back together. Now I have a leak. I tried putting back the old seal and still, leak. I did notice when I was cleaning where the head pipe goes, it was a little pitted. I think that cleaning it got all the dirt and carbon out of the pits and created my problem. The question is how do I fix it? Obviously, the seal is not going to do the job anymore.

Yeah, definately use the hi temp silicon. You can get it at your local auto parts store. I use it even when I'm not having a leak problem - just for the extra security. A thin layer on your new gasket as well as a thin layer on your header and you should be good to go. Good luck.
