Unsprung weight reduction????

Recommended Posts

What is the best way or ways to reduce unsprung weight? I read an article that says a 1 lb loss of unsprung weigh is equal to 6 lbs of sprung weight due to the pendulum effect...

lightening any of these would reduce unsprung wt: rims, hubs, spokes, tires, tubes, chain, sprockets, axles, linkage bolts, chain slider.

Also remove any disc guards, skid plates, etc...if you're serious about it.

Yes of course...but how do you know who makes the lightest version of each of the aforementioned items?

funny how.. that's where i spent a lot of money beefing it up!

sucks.. but I guess I'd rather ride on straight rims and heavy duty tubes .. than no riding at all!

I think unsprung weight reduction is more applicable to MX riding mainly where there is more time spent in the air and you are not as worried about the ramifications of a flat. I can see the need for heavier rims and tubes in the desert.
