jetting on '05 RM-Z250

Recommended Posts

I asked this question over in the RMZ forum but I'd like to refine my question a-little.

If I were going to re-jet my bike, could I use the recommendations from the '04 settings? The '05s have the same carb. (Keihin FCR-37) and appear to be using the same stock jets as the '04s. (Jet needle:OBEKS, clip:3, main jet:178, pilot jet:40, pilot screw: 1.75). However, suposedly the made some modifications to the intake/exhaust ports and the ignition timing for '05??

Also, maybe this is a stupid question, but my owners manual calls out a "special tool" for adjusting the pilot screw. Is there really a need for this special tool or can I just use pliers etc?

thanks for input!

The pilot screw is difficult to reach, but there is no requirement to use a special tool.

The same '04 changes should apply to '05. The 40PJ and EKS#3 is very lean at low throttle and contributes to excessive heat and possibly overheating problems.
