Push/Pull Throttle Question

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that someone had removed the "push" part of his push/pull throttle. What would this do for you - and what does the "push" cable do anyway?

Most any carb you'll find on a dirtbike has a spring to return the throttle to closed.. Alot of people (including myself) think a push cable is unnecessary and just something else to fray. The push cable just closes the throttle when you roll off, closing the carb... Only usefullness is in case the spring on the carb snaps... Which isn't likely.

CVK type carbs need a push/pull cable because they have no spring to bring the throttle back closed.

okay - so its more or less a safety measure in case the throttle return spring breaks? otherwise, it's just adding resistance to the throttle, eh?

Bill, I tossed the push cable on my CVK 6 years ago. Seems to work okay. There is a coil spring under the exterior plate.
