Where to find Heat resistant tape?

Recommended Posts

I get muffler tape at the auto parts store. I think it's pretty common. I use it for part of my flag mount for Pismo -- the top bracket thing that keeps the flagpole next to my muffler.

I just did a google search on the following:

muffler tape auto parts store

and got a bunch of hits. Here's the second one:

Some "extreme tape" good to 500 degrees and useful on mufflers it says. Maybe check out some of the other hits from google, or try again at the auto parts store. Good luck! ?

T.T. sells the 2" wide ceramic exhaust wrap by DEI. This is what you want to use.

Wrap the pipes starting at the the silencer to the junction, and then with a new piece from the junction to the head.

Use the S.S slip clamps to secure the end of it, and wrap with 50% overlap. Keep the wrap tight!

Not only will you not blister yourself if you touch it, you will also make more power with the bike.

If their web site was faster than a slug, I would try and get the link to their catalog page with it.

forgot to add, the S.S. slip clamps are just like zip ties just made from stainless steel. Nylon zip ties are great until they melt. ?

Do not under any circumstances spray it with a pressure wasure. It will shread it. and it will steam off the water that gets on it, so dont freak out just ride it.

I originally used it to wrap my kids bike when he was 12, but after the first pin by my own header all our bikes get wrapped now.

T.T. sells the wrap by thermotec, but it's the same as DEI's. Just get the tan looking stuff.

this is from DEI's site. It has a pic of a wrapped pipe so you know what yours should look like, and those are the S.S. ties too.

I'm not sure why T.T. doesnt sell the ties?

i just put some of that dei black wrap on.i found i had to use a clamp on header that is close to engine, cause those stainless steel coated tie wraps from dei melted there.they do fine at the other end of header.i used black high heat rustolium to spray the wrap and clamp,i thought the clamp would become discolored and ugly, like my unwraped header looked at the first 5 inches or so.the wrap smoked at first, which they say it will, but stoped and has not even shown any signs of how hot it gets, yet anyway, only went 2 miles so far
