sprocket ratios

Recommended Posts

I know that a 14 - 53 front rear sprocket ratio is similar to a 13 - 49, but I was told that the 14 - 53 way to go is better. Can someone clarify why this is true and reinforce this purchase decision for me?

14/53 is the stock gear ratio on the X. I dont know why you want want to keep Identical ratio but just go with smalled sprockets ? However the reason that people say 14/53 is better than the 13/49 is because the chain has to bend more to go around the smaller countershaft sprocket which makes it where out faster.

Thw stock ratio is good. I ended up throwing on the 13 up front and then run a 50 or 51 depending on terrain.

And when I do supermoto then I run the 14 up front and like a 50 tooth rear. The bonus to this is that i dont have to change chains. If you do decide to go with a 13/49 you are going to need to remove a link.

the theory is that there is less load on the larger front sprocket due to less rpm and less severe angle of the chain
