Filling with coolant

Recommended Posts

Is there a right/wrong way to fill the bike with coolant after it has been completely drained. Someone told me that you have to be careful of an airlock that might cause the bike to overheat. When I tried to loosen up the air bleed screw (cold bike), the coolant just came spewing out.

Also, I wanted to overflow a small amount into the overflow resevoir, as suggested by Bronco, but instead of coolant flowing into the overflow tank, it would just overflow where I was pouring it.

I loosened the air bleed screws on the thermostat housing and the left radiator. Poured coolant in slowly til it started coming out at the thermostat screw then tightened that screw. Continued pouring in coolant til it came out the bleed on the l/ rad then tightened it up. Filled to the top then topped it off after it cooled down from the first ride.
