yz250f top end rebuild

Recommended Posts

how often should i replace a new top end in my yz250f.. mine is an 01 it runs great but i have noticed lately that it does not run as smooth as the newer models i have seen and heard at the track. could this be that it needs a fresh piston and rings, or maybe just the jetting is wrong?

If your bike is that old, I'm sure it needs a piston and rings. I highly recommend the Wiseco high compression piston if you are staying with a stock bore. You will love the extra zzzip with a fresh high-compression top end.

You can buy Wiseco Pistons from any dealer that stocks them, or mail order like Motosport Outlet or Rocky Mountain Cycle/ATV are good sources as well. Also, you can always buy direct from Wiseco. www.wiseco.com. The only other thing you HAVE to have to change your top end is a new head and base gasket. You should check your valve clearance when you have it apart though - worst case there is buying a new shim or two if your clearance is out of spec.
