Over heating question. . .

Recommended Posts

I might be wrong but I think it can make it run hotter. Just how much hotter I am not sure. Too lean a jetting will fry your engine so it must be running hotter.

That kind of answers my question. My jetting seemed to be spot on after the big bore kit, but it kept running hot. I wanted to suspect jetting, but I figured it was more the big bore. I have since installed a 1.6 cap, and boysen cover and impeller, and will see how it works with richer jetting (due to my Hot Cam install!) this weekend. If it all works out, I should have created a monster!

some of the hotter cams actually require leaner jetting because they create greater vaccum and pull more fuel through the main jets.

Its the deal where the JD kits dont work on the ported RHC heads and cammed motors. And those guys end up at 158 for the main usually too, which is 2 sizes less than stock.

Seems like cams make more changes in jetting than displacement does...
