KTM 50 question

Recommended Posts

I know this is a 4-stroke forum, so I'll be brief.

5 year old son's outgrowing the PW50. He doesn't race, but might give it a shot later this year purely for fun (as my work sked permits). Would like to put him on a bike with good power and suspension (like the KTM 50 Pro Jr) but have heard the little 2-strokes have reliability issues.

Other bike I'm considering is CRF50...obviously, bulletproof reliability is a plus. The endless aftermarket scene is nice, too.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom on the subject.

I can't speak for the newer water cooled models, but I had a Pro Jr and Sr (1999 model I believe) and they were a maintenance nightmare. The clutches self destruct regularly. Ignitions die. No bearings in the swingarm pivit. I would assume the newer ones are built better. Good luck.
