86 XR250 Fork Disassembly

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have instructions as to how to disassemle the forks on an '86 XR250? Also, how much fork oil do I need to put back in, the min - max levels. Both of my old mans fork seals went, so when I travel back up to CO in Nov, I'm going to fix them. It seems to me, they were a lot easier than the inverted. It's just been years since I've messed with non-inverted forks. He may have the service manual laying around somewhere still, I need to ask I guess..hopefully he does.

Thanks in advance.

There should be caps at the top of each fork. Remove them and the springs are right there. Drain plugs are at the bottom of the forks. Drain it out, install springs, refill with oil and your good to go.

After the caps are off and springs out, remove the bottom bolt and damping rod as well as the clip from the seal. Then pull hard on the slider until the seal dislodges.
