Rusted bearings on delivery?

Recommended Posts

I got my bike put back together finally last night. I had a rusted lower bearing in the steering stem. I figured before I had it done that I got it wet somehow and neglected it... The bearing was completely rusted away and pretty much just broke apart.

Now that it is done, the steering feels easier than it was when I took delivery! It has never felt this good. It was on the showroom at the dealer for a year and a half. I am thinking water got in the stem somehow at the dealer (washing it or...?) and it sat in the showroom and started rusting long before I took it home.

Is this possible? I guess the bottom line is feels really good now!

It's a common thing to find... Suzuki just simply doesn't grease them well, if at all, from the factory.

You should also do this sort of maintenence on every bike you buy shortly after taking delivery

They hardly get any lube to start with. Its possible it was slightly rusted when you got it. Alot of drz riders repack that steering head.

Yes!!

If you have a "S" model you have to cover the hole in the stem for the steering lock.

When completed you don't have to disassemble to lube.

Just give it a shot till you see grease.
