Should I replace my base gasket. . .

when I replace my head gasket? It's only about two months old, and I don't intend on taking off my cylinder, just the head.

A base gasket is like $8 and once the head is off, the cylinder takes about 1 minute to get off. Take the one retaining screw on the side off adn that's it. Putting it back on is really easy too. Will take you a total of 10 minutes, so you might as well do it. Whatever caused your head gasket to leak may have damaged your base gasket.

I had exactly this happen to me about 3 weeks ago. I only did the head gasket and then about a day later the base gasket went to hell too.

Tim, once you release the pressure of the head bolts, the base gasket really should be replaced. I would really recommend it. For what it is worth, Tdub
