anyone have permant pain from nerve damage?

Recommended Posts

im not sure yet but it is a real possibility? i may be starting epidural steroid therapy soon. if anyone has been through somthing like this how are you coping and are you still able to ride. for some reason i am more worried about riding than working.

ride vs. work hmm tough choice  seriously though, i haven't experienced anything like that but i'm pretty sure nerve damage won't cause pain, instead you'll lose feeling where ever the damage has occured. I believe that blood clots are more likely to cause pain. I'm not entierely sure on the matter so if I'm wrong i won't take offense in anyone correcting me.

it is definitly a nerve. it is the psyatic nerve. i have had an mri and a mylogram. the docs are unsure what is causing it because the dont see any definant nerv compression. i will also be have a nerv study to try and locate the compression or damage.

I had this crap real bad. I went to the doctor and he sent me to therapy (They showed me some stretchs to do)It always hurt and sometimes I couldn't walk.

You will never believe what fixed it! Taking my wallet out of my back pocket (It was pressing on the nerve)

what meds does your dr have you on..... i just went to a lecture on chronic pain managment and there are new studies that for people with nerve damage it is recommended to take an anti-inflamatory like celebrz, mobic, relafen, diclofenac and also an anti-depressnt...

if you are taking percocet, vicodin or t3 i would get off those meds..they will do more harm that good

as your Dr to consult a pain specialist and see what he recomends good luck

My feet hurt extremly bad most of the time, its called nerve pain,go figure.....

went to four differernt neuroligists before i finally accepted the diag. really sucks at times....

My own system is destroying the sheath the protects my nerves..no real cure, just drugs to help the neuropathy pain

i have had dammaged nerves and they slowly recovered like 2 years

for the first year the nerves were so sensitive grabing somthing to hard hiting my hand or sudden temp change made me cringe

the pain will go away very slowly if you allow it to, take care of it and do your stretches/movments it just takes time

it will never be perfect but depending on age 70-90% recovery is normal but it has alot to do with you

good luck

right now im on oxycontin. i am still in the diagnosis stage. will be having a nerv study this week. the doc has said that after all other causes are ruled out then i will be refered to a pain specialist. i have had prior spine surgeries and also have a new far lateral disc herniation at the l5, s1 level. the first neurosurgen i went to said he believed that the herniation does not imfringe on the nerv root. but his diagnosis seems in some ways to conflic with the neurologist report. i will also be having a second opinion.

thanks for the replys

Dude, I've had chronic pain in my something for most of my life.

The only person in the USA who can help you is a GOOD chiropractor.

A bad one will make you worse.

An M.D. cannot possibly do anything for a sciatic nerve pain except drugs and cutting and giving you a LAME stretch/excercise handout.

Steroids (cortisone, etc.) cannot fix you, because they did not mess you up. What messed you up was the WRONG physical activity done over and over. (Usually sitting in a torturous wooden desk for 15 years). What will fix you is a lot of RIGHT physical moves/activities.

I know; I was raised by M.D.s. They suck for advice on athleticism.

I have nerve damage in my left ankle, it doesnt hurt all the time I just lost some of the feeling in different areas of my foot. I got shot on August 24th, 2003 and had to have reconstructive surgery to repair my whole ankle. The bullet went in and completely blew the bone apart, nothing was left but shards of bone. They had to reconstruct all of it and put a big screw through it to hold it all together. It destroyed some of the nerves, but its hardly noticeable except for the loss of feeling. Sometimes the bone hurts in cold weather, but thats it. I was lucky, the bullet was less than 1mm from hitting the main nerve in my leg, which would have caused me to lose the use of my entire leg for the rest of my life. I was told they would just amputate and fit me for a prostethic. Anyway, I wouldnt worry that much. How did you get nerve damage anyway? Keep on ridin'.

I have nerve damage in the side of my tongue - lower right wisdom tooth was impacted and they tore a nerve getting it out. No pain, just numbness. I had to learn to talk differently, and it goes numb after a couple of drinks, so I slur like a drunken fool before I even get a decent buzz going.

im not sure how it happened. it started as an ache in my upper butocks. then one night i woke up in severe pain in that area, i could not lay down or sit down, standig provided some relief. the next day there was no pain in my butocks, the pain had moved to shin, ankle and foot. it could have happened while riding , working or it could be from a previous injury. now im just waiting on some kind of diagnosis.
