repairing plastic

Recommended Posts

Hi all - need some advice. So many cracked fenders that I want to buy a plastic welder. The two types I see are the hot air types and the airless types. Anyone have experience or knowledge regarding what is best to get. I'd like the repair to look smooth. It seems that the airless are more popular but I get the feeling that the hot air type will be smoother. Thanks in advance.

I've seen 500 gallon plastic water tanks repaired with the airless type welder. They hold but look like crap. I don't think it would be very flexible.

That gives me some insight. Thank you. I bought a(nother) bike last season and noticed a fender has a couple of very fine looking lines that I beleive are repairs - they look great and are essentially like the original plastic. That's what I want.

The hot air is the way to go. I use a sand form and hot gun to repair my plastic you will get a new shine finish. Use wax paper under the fender so you dont get sand in the plastic. And do not over heat.
