XR100 Clutch Help, Please...

Recommended Posts

My kids '02 has started slipping when he goes up an incline, and, when I got on in, I had to let the clutch almost all out before any movement, in 1st.

I guess it's time for new clutch pads. I've never done a clutch job before, but I'll give it a try.

Any tips? Where can I buy a clutch kit online? Are there any online manuals?

Thanks.

how hard was he riding the clutch? Check the cable for kinks or frays, check to be sure there is no dirt in the perch and that there is the recommended amount or free play in the lever ( usually take a nickel and use is to set the free play with the width of onr between the lever and perch) if nothing else new plates they are only like 25

Andrew~

Replacing the clutch is not a big deal. You can even do it without changing the oil(if you want).

If you leave the oil in make sure you lay the bike down, so the clutch cover is up.

remove clutch cover

remove four bolts in middle hub

slide off hub

slide disks out

insert new ones

replace the hub

tighten 4 bolts criss cross pattern sinching them down alittle at a time

replace cover

put oil in(if need be)

adjust clutch

done

HTH

Here's a hint: when you take off the four bolts - DO NOT do them one at a time , undo them criss cross a little at a time. Otherwise the plate can crack. I saw a guy do that at the track and his day was done.
